Loyola University Chicago New Athletic Center and Arena Reconstruction

Associate Vice President Loyola University
Loyola University – Chicago, has made a commitment to rally its students and lake shore campus neighbors by rekindling the University’s rich basketball tradition. Two important steps in the strategic plan involve new facilities for the varsity athletic program and a reconstruction of the Gentile Center gymnasium. To lead the design process, the University turned to their trusted architects at SCB Design, who introduced their valuable client to SportsPLAN Studio, reuniting the team that had worked together at the University of Notre Dame and Valparaiso University.
In the first phase, opened in March 2011, a dynamic three-story addition to the Gentile Center created a whole new image for the athletic program and provide a new strength and conditioning center, sports medicine facilities, locker rooms and Athletic Department offices.
Second phase improvements, completed in November 2011, reconfigured the arena seating bowl and created new concourses and special spectator amenities.
