University of Notre Dame Center for Varsity Athletics and Loftus Field House

Director of Construction and Quality Assurance, University of Notre Dame
"...until June of this year, Notre Dame was at a competitive disadvantage as far as facilities went. And this new facility, it doesn’t get any better..."
Head Football Coach University of Notre Dame
The University of Notre Dame invited only four teams of construction and design professionals to compete for the chance to build a new Center for Varsity Athletics. The team of SportsPLAN Studio, McShane Construction and SCB Design worked nights and weekends for a month to prepare the winning design-build concept and business plan.
SportsPLAN Studio conducted a comparative survey of peer institutions, and we worked closely with the Athletic Department to establish and validate a program of space requirements. We designed the internal spaces to ensure operational efficiency for the athletic trainers, coaches, equipment managers and student athletes. Our weight room planning specialist worked with the strength coaches on equipment selection and planning.
