Lake Forest College Sports and Recreation Center Addition

The addition has created a striking new entrance for the facility and a new image for the home of several Foresters’ Athletic programs.

SportsPLAN Studio led the programming phase and served as design consultant to Solomon Cordwell Buenz for this expansion of the Lake Forest College Athletic Center. We conducted a series of workshops with coaches and Athletic Department staff, prepared a program of space requirements and developed equipment layouts for the showcase Strength Training and Fitness Center.

The addition to this 40-year old structure respectfully addresses the Lake Forest neighborhood concerns for the Sheridan Road corridor by putting one third of the program space below grade with a ribbon of high windows to provide daylight. The addition was programmed and designed to substantially upgrade the varsity team support facilities and provide a variety of new recreation featuresfor the Lake Forest College community.
